Bienvenue.
Arrival to the Crescent City has been uneventful. The people at the Renewal Volunteer Center have helped us with an easy adjustment to dormitory living. Saturday was just a day of settling in and time on our own. Some of the group had an opportunity to test some traditional food like Po Boys and Grilled oysters (Oysters were a big hit and and deserve a second try.) The Blues Club on Bourbon Street had a seven piece band with rotating singers and lead guitar players. The act ended with a brass section marching through the audience to a rousing version of "When the Saints Come Marching In." The club sells small, overpriced drinks, so consider that the cost of admission.
Today some of us will be attending Sunday services here at the FUUNO and Julia will be preaching at the Northshore UU church. Early afternoon some will be attending the 10th Annual Easter Sunday Gay Pride Parade. This afternoon is a tour of the city and hopefully the rebuilding. Tonight will be a discussion on Racism, Classism and Katrina. We're sharing the space with lively youth groups from Wisconsin and Schenectady, NY. Looking forward to the intergenerational point of view.

The people of New Orleans have been so welcoming. All tell of animated conversations they've had either on the streetcar, in a taxi or just about town. When people hear that we've come to do a bit of work they've openly expressed their appreciation.

Well, work begins tomorrow.
Laissez le bonstemps rouler!

  1. Great to hear you're getting to work down there! We missed you yesterday in church, but were happy to know you are carrying Summit's wishes for renewal to New Orleans! Go get 'em!!
